If you want to see a bigger image, you can click to enlarge. Have fun with reading and remember what you’ve learned.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam, our capital city. If you never been there and you have some time left…you definately need to visit it.
Bikes
Holland contains more than 29.000 kilometers of bicycle routes. Due to the small distances and the populated cities, people like to move by bike.
Costumes
Not everybody walks with wooden shoes and dressed with costume. That’s just a prejudice. But in open air musea like the “Zaanse Schans” you ‘ll flash back in time and see how we lived some centuries ago.
Dike warden
There were build many dikes to protect the Dutch against the water. The warden kept an eye on the waves.
Hollandse Nieuwe
Hollandse Nieuwe (Dutch newest) is the first herring of the new season which is suited for consumption. Salted or pickled, with or without onions…we love herring. And some OES love it too!
Living on the water
Holland has lot of canals and small rivers where some people live in arks. These arks were made very famous during the homage of the Dutch National Team in 1988.
Mills
Whats more Dutch than our mills? The Dutch view with green fields, some snow…and of course some pretty OES 😉
Queensday
To celebrate the birthday of our Queen Beatrix we have a great party every year. Holland turns completely orange at 30 april. And of course our OES join this party too
Sinterklaas
Typical Dutch are Saint Nicholas and his helper Black Pete. On the night of December 5 and 6 December, according to tradition they come through the chimney inside all homes to bring gifts for the children (and OES off course) who live there.
Skating
During the winter when it freezes 3 days…people are getting a little bit nervous. Dutch like to skate at the frozen rivers. The Dutch “11 stedentoch” is very famous. And when it freezes..they like to hear the words “it goat on”. Thats nothern dialect for “It goes on”.
The coast
The coast of Holland is circa 450 kilometres. It’s rather special with the dunes and sandy beaches. Our OES like to run through the seawater and play with the waves.
Tulips
We are famous for our tulips. Large fields with different coloured tulips are the attraction for many tourists. Of course our OES love tulips too. Well behaving for the picture.
Wooden shoes
Actually we think that the modern Crog has its idea stolen from our clogs, don’t you think? Farmers still use this wooden shoes while they are working. It’s not the most comfortable shoe but it’s real Dutch for sure!
